Puxico High School I-TV Spanish I Class

Cheri Moll, Teacher

Textbook:  Realidades I, Prentice Hall, 2004, ISBN #0-13-101687-3

Dear Parent:

I am very excited to have your child in my Spanish I class.  I hope to make this an interesting learning experience for my students.

Spanish is a foreign language.  It is very different from other classes.  It introduces new vocabulary, sentence structure, and culture from the Spanish-speaking world.  The main focus of the class is to be able to communicate in Spanish orally and in writing.

Grades will consist of daily homework assignments, vocabulary/spelling tests, writing assignments, quizzes and tests, notebook checks, and projects.  The grading scale is as follows:

95-100    A                        73-76    C

90-  94    A-                      70-72    C-

87-  89    B+                      67-69    D+

83-  86    B                        63-66    D

80-  82    B-                       60-62    D-

77-  79    C+                        0-59    F

I would appreciate it if you would look over the syllabus for class and sign and return the form below.  If you need to call me, my school number is 222-3175.  I will call you back as quickly as I can.  Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Cheri Moll

Mrs. Moll's Expectations for ITV Classes

Respect your teacher, your classmates, your classroom, your equipment and supplies and YOURSELF.

It is the student's responsibility to follow directions the first time they are given.

When it is necessary to leave your seat, ask the teacher for permission.  This is especially important in an ITV setting.  The teacher needs to know what you are doing when you are out of the camera's range.  Because of this, it is important that you stay in your seat unless given permission to get up.

It is the student's responsibility to make your greatest effort to learn the lesson being presented.  Listen carefully when the teacher is speaking.  Keep all distractions (magazines, make-up, etc.) to a minimum.  If you can not hear the teacher or student comments at other sites, raise your hand and ask questions.

There will be NO passes out of the ITV room during class unless requested by a teacher or administrator or in case of an emergency.

It is the student's responsibility to help keep the room clean.  Pick up after yourself.  Keep all trash off of the floor and surrounding areas.

NO food or drinks will be allowed in the classroom unless it is part of a lesson or assignment.

It is the student's responsibility to respect all equipment and supplies provided for you.

Leave all equipment alone unless you have been told to adjust something.  If the equipment is not working correctly, be sure you know who to contact to get it fixed.

Always bring paper, pen, or pencil, textbook, and any other needed supplies with you to class.

Be on time.  You are expected to be in your seat before the tardy bell rings.  Tardies and absentees will be reported to your school authorities.  If you know ahead of time that you will not be in class for any reason (doctor's appointment, school assembly, school holiday, field trip, etc.) please let me know as soon as possible.  Make good use of your time during class.  Keep working until the bell rings.

Hand in all work to the office on the day it is due.  Make sure that your name and assignment description is on every sheet of paper that is turned in.  To make sure that your paper can be read, if faxed, always use blue or black ink, no other color is allowed.  Pencil does not fax well.  It is the student's responsibility to ask for make-up work, if absent from class.  All make-up work must be labeled correctly before handed in for correction.

Tests will usually be announced well ahead of time.  If absent, you will be responsible for taking that test on the day you return to school.

Practice self-discipline.  Taking an ITV class is a privilege.  All misbehavior will be reported to your principal.  Several misbehaviors will result in you being dropped from the class.  Always do your best, have a good attitude, and come to class prepared to learn.
